Have you ever received really exciting news that you just couldn’t wait to share with your Mister (or Mrs.) and the minute you told them, you wished you hadn’t? They couldn’t dial up a “YAY” in their tone so you debated on whether or not if that’s the next thing they should hear on the other end. I can’t sit here and say that I haven’t had a few doozies in my wordage selection, but as a writer, I’m aware of the power of words. One word in this piece and it could throw this whole post off!
Well, that’s what hurtful words do; they have the ability to throw relationships off course. As a kid, you might have used the age-old adage “stick and stones will break my bones, but words will never hurt me” while playing the dozens. Seriously, that’s a #FAIL. Try telling yourself that while in thick of an argument with your honey and guarantee, it’ll be anything but sweet.
Although words are supposed to be the less dangerous of weapons, they never go away. I know it’s difficult to remain chill like the weather in NYC when all you’re hearing is bleep this, bleep that, and bleep you, but think about it. Is following in their footsteps of f-bombs going to ease you down the road and end the spat? My guess is a no.
I’m not suggesting you be quick to back down; I’m merely stating fight fair. Granted, in a fight, there’s a winner and a loser; but who’s the winner here when you both demolished your house of love?
