"Fastie"

I am fast.
I am so fast, like Flo Jo, Vick, and Arthur Ashe.
My sister calls me fastie cuz you can’t get nothing past me.
That’s how fast I am, that’s how bad I am.
I am so fast, that when I ego trip through Africa,
I sunbathe on the sphinx, and the strength of my ancestors
is the nectar that I drink…..and you still can’t catch me.
I am fast
I am so fast, that what it is to you, is already what it was to me
I use past tense reference while you’re still in the present tense,
Never hesitant to move…
Now please excuse my groove theories,
they are funkadelic like Parliament, and since space ships don’t come
equipped with rear view mirrors, I dip!
You can’t even see me, and you could never be me.
I run this race alone.
When I make it to the finish line my soul will find its home.
I will not break.
I will not bend.
I will not bow.
I will not fold.
This race that I am running will not end until I’m old.
And even then, the fruit of my womb is preordained to carry on the torch,
while I’m sipping lemonade and telling stories on my porch.
Baby, I am fast!
I am so fast, like Flo Jo, Vick, and Arthur Ashe.
My sister calls me fastie cuz you can’t get nothing past me.
I am running for my life.
I am running for what’s right…
For four little girls who were black like me,
But they can not come back like me
Even though my feet hurt
I close my eyes and envision them
I have exactly what I need to make sure that I will win.
I am a survivor with a destiny chile!
The stir of echoes reminds me every once in a while, of where I have come from,
The hurts of my past
I have no time for failure, that’s why I’m so fast.
I have to win…..
In Africa we ran because we were proud and free.
In America we ran for fear of hanging from a tree
In America we run for fear of hanging from a tree
And today we have the audacity to be running for the presidency
Now aint that bad, and aint that black, and aint that fine!
See I come from a long line of runners.
That is why I can’t give in.
And this race that I am running will not stop until I win.
I am fast.
I am so fast, like Flo Jo, Vick, and Arthur Ashe.
My sister calls me fastie, cuz you can’t get nothing past me.
I am fast.
