Her mood swung like a revolving door wearing him down like
haute couture placed on the poor
Every look hurt more than words used to deplore
He was trying to be a real man so she could love him more
Her temper was raw their relationship had no heat
He'd slave all hours only to come home and be beat like a piece of meat
A compliment was a treat if ever they'd speak
They dug holes for each other because their love wasn't deep
Silence was peace because speech was a raging sea
Inside they wanted so much but couldn't align to let them be
Battle lines instead of quality time in this cold war of minds
Their weapons were primed and hidden in a punch line
They loved each other but they were in denial
The path to marriage seemed a unity of vision
Yet the road through marriage became the road to perdition
They were not lost souls but they needed a huge rescue mission
On the rocks of ambition they were locked in competition
Blinded by the summit they'd forgotten their position as friends
To make ends meet they did not need to meet the end
They needed to attend to each other not offend each other
Go out on a date pretend to be new lovers
Let each trouble reveal their strength in number
One because they were and two's a company that wont go under
Although the institutions corrupted by contemptuous others
Marriage is not a building designed by assumption
The blueprint is not static if you heed wise instruction
So if you ask yourself why you got married the answer shouldn't cause trouble.
